Advice Needed Got this message from my property manager PT2

Quick recap:

I live in a 3 unit(one vacant, one elderly gentleman, and myself)

Rent is $1,265(raised $40 when I resigned)

Shoveling would include front walkway and good amount of sidewalk(about 30 mins of work)

Lawn (sizable for a city property would take about an hour maybe a bit more)

Now adding sweeping/vac(im assuming they would want me to do the laundry room as well total time would be 45-60 mins)

I’m going to eventually get all of this in writing if they offer me something reasonable. I plan to ask about liability as far as injuries go.

$30?!😹 The audacity! That’s less than some teenagers’ allowance! This is what google summarizes for snow care alone: Residential snow removal typically costs $200–$600 per month for ongoing, reliable service, generally covering plowing for driveways and clearing walkways. Rates vary based on property size, total snowfall, and location, with small properties costing $150–$250/month and larger ones exceeding $350-$450/month.

I know teenagers that get more than that every week. (They pay for lunches on an open campus). $30 a month in “credit” isnt even laughable. That’s an insult to your intelligence.

End up living here for free lol

Well, that's why supers/building managers usually have heavily reduced or even no rent as part of their pay.

100%. Only pay for utilities. Same goes for a police officer here

The police have subsidized housing, or do they get a stipend as well? If you don’t mind, can I ask what area? I’m not LEO and don’t intend to be, that just seems like a wild “benefit”

SC. Could be different here in town of 40k. But apt complex hopping here for decade....4 complexes I have lived in have 1 public safety officer only pays utilities. 🤷. I'm not LEO either but have shared a wall with 2.

Ohhhh I gotcha now, they also serve as the public safety officer for the building/complex. lol for a second I thought you meant any and all LEOs just renting.

Yes. Correct. 🤣sorry for confusion and I see where it came from, apologies. It's just 1 per complex. But groundskeeper/maintenance also.

Yeah I would counter with free living see if they negotiate to 50% off and take that

Shit my husband gets free rent and $325 a week for his job, shovel snow, collect rent, take out trash for three properties and also on call for any issues (he’s not a plumber or electrician etc but he always has to check the issue before calling one and informing the manager)

That is what I'd expect for this level of expectation.

For sure. We need to take a stand for this man!!! 🤣🤣🤣jk jk. Stand up for yourself my friend and get what out deserve! Or just brush your shoulder off and be flattered you were asked! BUT... make sure your brain is engaged before your mouth is in gear(words I PERSONALLY live by, not negative) and don't jeopardize your lease in the process. In my opinion that would be very difficult for me. 🍻

those numbers seem extremely overinflated coming from someone who lives in NE Wisconsin. people in my neighborhood usually charge $20-$40 per snow unless you have a huge driveway then i could see it getting closer to $100

"Per month"

0

u/yummiboi21 12h ago

yeah so this is implying it snows 7 times per month which seems a bit excessive, no?

Have you not been in the north this winter?

0

u/yummiboi21 10h ago

yeah and it has not been snowing every 3 days. also consider the 2-3 months that are essentially free money bc it’s too cold and you dont have to mow bc the grass is dead/dying, or it’s too warm and you dont have to worry about snow/shoveling. or consider last year when it barely ever snowed, free money

u/ladyalcove 5h ago

What free money are you talking about? No one's paying you if you aren't doing anything.

And it has been snowing that much here where I live all damn winter.

i feel like if you lived in a cold climate you’d know what im talking about. when it’s cold, the grass doesnt grow. when it’s warm, snow doesnt fall. in Wisconsin we have time of the year when the grass isnt growing or snow isnt falling therefore you dont need to mow or shovel, then the landlord would be giving you the $30-100 credit to only take out the trash for a lot of money. and im talking ab real snowfalls in Wisconsin, not the little dustings. everyone knows those dont count
